What is SEO:
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, it lets you target relevant keywords so you can boost your search engine visibility and will help you Rank higher on SERPs.

Why SEO matters:
Millions of people use search engines, so you need to be in front of them if you want to drive traffic to your website, increases conversions, and boost profit. It also helps you to Improve brand awareness.

Essential SEO tools:
Google Keyword Planner, Google Search Console, Google Analytics, Google My Business, Google PageSpeed Insights are all essential for success.

But we also have other keyword research tools like SEMrush, Ahrefs and UberSuggest. There are countless WordPress SEO plugins available but the most widely used are YOAST and All in One SEO.

In addition to these tools I also suggest installing the SEOQuake Extension and the Fat Rank Extension inside your browser. Also use a separate browser that has incognito mode, like Chrome, Firefox or Edge.

SEO dangers:
There are 3 types of SEO, the first one is called Black Hat and it violates the Google Webmaster Guidelines, like spam and link manipulation, duplicate content, and keyword stuffing.

Google will blacklist your site if caught.

Then we have white hat, which follows the Google Webmaster Guidelines.

And finally there’s gray hat which is a mix of black and white. This includes spun content and an unnatural internal link profile.

Keyword research:
We need to use a tool that can help us in identifying relevant keywords, so we know what people are searching for.

Then we have to verify the search volume so we know how many people are searching for those keywords.

Finally we need to know what the competition level is, so we know how many other pages compete for those keywords.

There are 2 types of keywords to think about.

Short tail keywords have 1 – 2 words, which have more competition and are harder to rank.

It’s always best to choose long tail keywords that have least 3 words, a lot less competition and are easier to rank.

Reverse engineering:
To reverse engineer our competition we can use websites like the Keyword Density Analyzer to help us find and take note of additional keywords.

The Moz Link Explorer will show us which sites are linking to our competition.

And then will show us which content performs best for our chosen keywords.

OnPage SEO:
This is what you can control and your website needs to be fast and responsive.

You need to write relevant copy, of at least 2,000 words.

The content should have relevant links to other articles on your site, and on other peoples too.

Make sure that you add your keywords inside the H1, H2, and H3 tags.

Also inside the first sentence and the last sentence of your article.

It’s a good idea to add it to the image name and the image alt tag.

If your website categories have keywords in their names, tags, you should be able to tell search engines what your site is actually about, more effectively.

Include a sitemap and submit it to the Google Search Console.

You can do this easily with the WordPress Plugins I mentioned earlier.

OffPage SEO:
This is what we can’t control, things like getting relevant backlinks, making sure that relevant anchor text is being used on those links, adding citations, brand mentions, social signals, and reviews.

SEO metrics:
The top 9 metrics you should keep an eye on are organic traffic, pages per session, the CTR, impressions, bounce rate, position in SERPs, inbound links, and conversion rate.

SEO tips:
It’s a smart move to link to relevant websites, write articles that are for humans first, put your keywords in your URL, and publish content consistently.

Problems with SEO:

It takes a long time to see results, you’ll need to constantly work or investment in it. Unpredictable results and things can change overnight. In fact the algorithms are constantly changing, which makes it dangerous.
